Lake Bereshcha is one of the elements of the Berezinsky water system. It was built more than two centuries ago along the ancient trade route "from the Varangians to the Greeks", was navigable and was used for rafting timber. The waters of the Connecting (Berezinsky Canal), which connects the basins of the Western Dvina and Dnieper rivers, flow into the lake. Lake Bereshcha has good water communication with various lakes in the Lepel district. A small river Kesta, the source of which is located at a distance of 18 km near the village of Nivki, flows into Bereshcha. The river with the same name Bereshcha flows out of the lake, then passes into the Verebsky Canal and flows into the river Essa.
The length of Lake Bereshcha is about 2 kilometers. The peculiarity of the reservoir is that its bottom is lined with a thick layer of sapropel. Due to it, the water in the lake has a dark "peat" color. Among the water surface of the lake there is a group of large and small low "islands". These are the so-called rafts, which are formed by aquatic vegetation (cane, reeds, cattails, spatterdocks, pondweeds, sedges) and constantly drift across the lake, moving in different directions. Waterfowl (whooping swans, great-crested grebes, bald-coots, goldeneyes, mallards, black-headed gulls, terns), birds of prey (osprey, march harrier, white-tailed eagles) and passerine birds (swallows, warblers, yellowhammers, etc.) nest on the shores of the lake.
You can get the pleasure of contemplating the picturesque lake landscapes while fishing in solitude. Lake Bereshcha is one of the most popular and favorite places for anglers.
And for good reason, because it is one of the most important spawning areas for fish in the entire Lepel region. Breams, crucian carps, tenches, silver breams, roaches, ides, rudds, perches and ruffs are caught in the lake.
In 2019, the reservoir was stocked with a common carp and pike. In accordance with the fish-biological rationales, stocking is carried out once every three years, so in 2022 the lake was stocked with pike in the spring, and additional stocking with carp will be carried out in the fall.
You can fish not only from the shore, but also from a rowing or motor boat, in accordance with the rules prescribed in the rules for local fishers.
