On January 28, the Berezinsky Biosphere Reserve hosted traditional winter fishing competitions among our staff. This year they were dedicated to the 98th anniversary of the reserve. Here is a photo report from this event. Ice fishing enthusiasts from different departments of the institution, as well as numerous guests, gathered on the ice of Plavno Lake. The weather contributed to outdoor activities: light frost, no wind and lack of precipitation.
The competition started at 10 am with a solemn line formation. The beginning of the competition was announced by the chairman of the judging commission − the director of the reserve. Andrei Mikhailovich Prokoshin made a welcoming speech and wished all the participants good luck!

Some guests spent their spare time riding a snowmobile on the lake.
A field kitchen, where everyone could have delicious scrambled eggs with cracklings and hot tea, was also organized.
After 4 hours from the beginning of the competition, the results were presented to the judging commission, so the participants were impatiently waiting for the awards ceremony.
The winners were awarded diplomas, symbolic cash prizes and commemorative baseball caps.
After the final counts of the catch weight, the winner of the competition became the forester of the Tereshki forestry Mikhail Sadovsky, who caught two pikes with a total weight of 2200 g.
The second place was taken by Vadim Khalimonenko, the operator of the Plavno steamshop, who caught a pike weighing 1900 g.
The third place went to another forester of the Tereshki forestry − Roman Rachkovsky, who caught perches.
And the youngest and most active participants of fishing, the children of the reserve’s staff, additionally received encouraging sweet prizes..
These winter ice fishing competitions ended with a solemn closing and the lowering of the flag.
